Dranend is Niyala's third largest landmass spanning a portion of the southern hemisphere. It contains examples of most biomes — most expansively shrubland and plains, though dense jungles can be found, and the occlusion of mountainous regions has created some areas of alpine and small tundras.
Only small portions of Dranend are civilised, as centuries of conflict and challenges against the monstrous inhabitants of the continent have prevented large-scale expansion. Cities are dense, vertical, and often walled. The remainder of the continent is considered badlands, ruled by monsters, bandits, and occasional outposts.
Dranend is the origin of the majority of Niyala's civilised and intelligent species: the Huvarin, Selaphae, Morazham, Taki-Ori, Bogvari, and Kashaskans.
Dranend is not home to many unusual magical phenomena, though many magicians believe the intense storms that can wrack the continent's coastline are magical in nature.
Dranend is geographically made up of two continents connected by a narrow joining section of land. It is colloquially separated into geographical regions roughly matching biomes and general culture, rather than political boundaries.
